The structure of the "traditional" American family has undergone significant changes over the years.
Today's families take on many different structures: cohabitating, foster/group-home families, grandparent-led families, joint custody, married nuclear, single-parent, and step-families.
Regardless of the structure, communities benefit from strong, healthy families.
Researchers agree that strong, healthy families have nine traits in common: caring and appreciation, time together, encouragement, commmitment, communication, cope with change, spirituality, community and family ties, and clear roles.
PEFAC works with parents and their children to build strong, healthy families and communities.
People are not born knowing how to parent; good parenting skills are learned. Many parents need additional information and support.
PEFAC helps parents improve their parenting skills and become more effective parents.
Many parents do not seek support from family, friends, or community resources out of fear that they will appear weak, needy, or incompetent.
Too often, parents function in isolation. However, it is important for parents to realize that networks of support strengthen and empower families. PEFAC connects parents to valuable resources.
Many parents look forward to their children blossoming into adults capable of surviving independently.
The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be frightening and stifling if the adolescent is unprepared. PEFAC helps prepare your adolescents for a successful transition into adulthood.
